Singer Beyoncé's father gets reprieve from paying child support

Florida residents familiar with singer Beyoncé and her father, Mathew Knowles, may find it interesting to learn the after a long child support dispute between Knowles and mother of his 3-year-old son, a court recently reached a judgment. Because he was overpaying child support, Knowles will not have to pay child support for the next three and a half years.

The child support saga between Knowles and the mother of his child has been on-going for several months. According to reports, even though Knowles' income had drastically reduced after Beyoncé relieved him from his duties as her manager sometime in 2011, Knowles was ordered in February 2013 to pay about $12,000 per month in child support to the mother of his son. Knowles paid his monthly obligation, but his son's mother recently filed legal papers alleging that he was behind in child support.

The two have been in and out of court to determine what Knowles child support payments should be. Considering the substantial decrease in his income, a judge reduced Knowles child support from $12,000 to a little over $2,400 a month. However, Knowles recently noted that he should not have been paying $12,000 to start with. Based on the information presented, the presiding judge in this case agreed with Knowles, credited him about $11,000, and noted that more than likely he would not have to pay child support for at least another three and a half years.

The mother of Knowles child, however, was not happy about this new development, and alleges that Knowles already is not part of this son's life, and now is not required to help with his upbringing. Reports note that the mother is a welfare recipient, and thus child support enforcement officials may still require Knowles to pay some child support.

For many parents, child support disputes may surface for reasons such as a substantial change income or other circumstance such as the onset of a serious medical condition. In such instances, it may be helpful for a parent struggling to make ends meet to file for a child support modification.
