Wife of 88-year-old Florida multimillionaire alleges infidelity

One of the strongest bonds Florida residents can form with one another is the marital bond a person forms with the person’s spouse. This is especially true for those who have been married for a number of years.

No matter how strong the marital bond may seem, however, couples may decide that a divorce is in their best interests. Often times, this decision may be made after one spouse is unfaithful to another.

For instance, the wife of an 88-year-old Florida multimillionaire recently filed for divorce after alleging her husband was having an affair with another woman. The woman claims she became aware of the affair in 2008, although the other woman denied the allegations.

Like other states, Florida is a no fault divorce state, which means that issues of fault are no longer as consequential as they once were. Fault is not irrelevant in the divorce, however, as it can still bear on other issues like property division or custody matters.

For example, if a spouse spends large sums of money on a mistress or provides financial support to that person, the court may take this conduct into consideration when dividing the couple’s property. This can have a significant impact in a high asset divorce, as even a slight change in the way the court divides property can result in a substantial disparity in the assets distributed to one spouse or another.

Accordingly, individuals should understand how a court might look at issues of marital misconduct. By being aware of these issues, individuals can best protect themselves as the divorce proceeds, including gathering the right evidence and putting into place the right strategy for success.
