Child custody dispute brewing between famed actors

There is perhaps nothing more important to Florida residents than their children. When a person's relationship with his or her child is threatened, it can result in a very emotional and serious matter.

This is often the case when parents are engaged in a child custody dispute. Custody disputes can be among the most contentious issues in a divorce, as accusations can be made by one parent against the other related to the care of the children.

For example, superstars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are currently in a complex legal battle, which includes a dispute over the custody of their six children. Pitt was alleged to have verbally and physically abused the child's son, but these allegations were found not to be supported after an investigation by a social service unit.

While that phase of the case is likely over, it remains to be seen how Pitt and Jolie will resolve their custody dispute. In particular, speculation is mounting over whether the couple will go to court or whether they will try to resolve the dispute through alternative dispute resolution like mediation or arbitration.

Although Pitt and Jolie may have a different marriage than many, their case is not that different when it comes to the issues involved in deciding custody over the children. The key inquiry in a custody dispute is typically finding out what lies in the best interests of the child. The court may have wide leeway in analyzing the child's best interests in order to arrive at a custody decision that works best for the children, whether this be a joint custody arrangement, sole custody or otherwise.
